Refurbishment of Kokopo Police Station

Gazelle Restoration Authority
Funding Agent

This Design & Build project commenced in 1997 and was completed in 1998. Alexander and Lloyd, through their subsidiary Professional Group Australia, provided full construction documentation and co-ordination of other technical disciplines to the building contractor.

The project is one of the components of the Gazelle Restoration Program that involved the rebuilding of Rabaul after the devastation of the Rabaul volcanic eruption in 1994.

The work involved the gutting and complete refurbishment of the Kokopo Police Station including upgrading the roof structure to meet the new ash loading criteria. The project also involved the construction of a new 50-person Detention Cell Block, Vehicle and Marine Maintenance Workshop, office extensions to the Police Station, roadworks, carparking and associated infrastructure.
